In a July 03 blog post, the Magic Eden NFT team confirmed that the Anichess Etherenals NFTs have successfully gone live on its platform. Magic Eden is one of the leading NFT marketplaces, primarily known for its dominance on the Solana blockchain, but now also supports other chains like Ethereum and Bitcoin. It allows users to buy, sell, mint, and manage NFTs. It’s also expanding into a broader web3 platform, offering features like token trading, swaps, borrowing, and lending.
On the other hand, Anichess is a renowned chess-based blockchain game developed by Animoca Brands and Chess.com that adds a layer of strategic depth and excitement by incorporating spells into gameplay. This chess game allows players to choose from a selection of spells before a match, which they can then cast during the game using mana points, adding a new dimension to traditional chess. Since launching in 2024, it has grown into a free-to-play strategy title with a player base that has surpassed one million.
To honor early players and contributors to the game’s evolving ecosystem, the Anichess team has launched a new non-fungible token collection dubbed “Anichess Ethernals.” The NFT collection features a limited supply of 960 stored on the Ethereum blockchain network. The Ethernals NFTs mark the first official NFT release, recognizing early involvement. The NFT collection went live on July 3, 2025.
Anichess Ethernals NFTs Overview
The Ethernals NFTs unlock perks within the Anichess Ecosystem. Each Ethernal’s NFT is tied to one of six lore-based tribes from Mystra, the chess game’s narrative setting: Mountain Folk, Volcanic People, Storm Citizens, River Dwellers, Time Tinkerers, and Shadow People. These affiliations offer symbolic identity within the chess game and reinforce Anichess’s worldbuilding through distinct styles and archetypes.
Furthermore, the Ethernals NFTs offer holders exclusive benefits beyond aesthetics. Ethernals come with access to upcoming staking pools, in-game features, and future ecosystem perks. These NFTs will also be included in token airdrops tied to the Checkmate ($C) economy. The NFT drop follows a $10K tournament prize pool. The top 64 players by rating will qualify for the playoffs in the prize pool distributed in $C tokens.
