“F1 The Movie” can now add a Grammy to its list of accolades, after Chris Stapleton won Best Country Solo Performance for his song “Bad As I Used To Be.”
The Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris was up for three nominations on Music’s Biggest Night, including Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media (for F1 The Album) and Best Dance Pop Recording via Tate McRae’s song “Just Keep Watching.” Sinners and Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra won those respective categories. Stapleton’s blues-leaning song played as Pitt, who portrayed the character Sonny Hayes, hopped into the APXGP car.
‘F1 The Movie’ was released in theaters June 2025 and hit Apple TV+ in December of last year. Pitt portrays a once-promising driver who endured an on-track accident that nearly ended his career. He eventually returns to the F1 scene to help his friend’s struggling team, pairing up with a rookie named Joshua Pearce (portrayed by Idris), and a redemption story unfolds.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is one of the producers, along with Jerry Bruckheimer, but he wasn’t the only F1 driver to appear in the Joseph Kosinski-directed film. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen also made cameos, among other drivers, and some scenes from the movie were filmed on F1 race weekends. And when it came to the driving itself, Pitt and Idris had to learn from real racers.
‘F1 The Movie’ has been nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture, and three BAFTA categories. It recently won two Critics’ Choice Awards earlier this month, for Best Sound and Best Editing.
