The clocks have officially gone back, which means days are shorter and mornings are darker. This time of year can be a struggle for many – but there’s one particular gadget taking social media by storm, and many shoppers are saying it is “really helping [their] mental health”.
The Lumie Bodyclock Spark 100 is a wake-up light specifically engineered to combat those winter blues, helping you rise feeling revitalised and less sluggish. It’s crafted to replicate natural sunlight, with a gentle LED glow starting 30 minutes before your wake-up time, progressively increasing in brightness.
For example, if you programme your alarm for 7am, the device will start illuminating from 6.30am, steadily intensifying until your alarm activates, mimicking how dawn gradually brightens your bedroom, GloucestershireLive reports.
You can adjust the final brightness level to suit your preferences, ensuring your room doesn’t become overly luminous. You can also select your preferred wake-up sound, including birdsong and countryside sounds, so you won’t be jolted awake by harsh or buzzing alarms.
And the clock doesn’t just mimic the sunrise: if you struggle to fall asleep during winter, the Lumie Bodyclock also has a fading sunset feature, gently dimming the light in your room in the 30 minutes leading up to you going to bed. It can even act as a night light for young children, providing all-round dimmable bedroom lighting in a range of hues.
The Lumie Bodyclock Spark would usually set you back £99, but Amazon has now slashed 29% off the handy gadget, bringing the price down to £70.54, and saving you more than £28. The alarm clock has garnered an impressive customer rating of 4.5 stars out of five from Amazon shoppers, from almost 1,500 reviews.
However, it is not just Amazon where the alarm clock is proving popular. Plenty of fans have been taking to social media platforms like TikTok to share their reviews of the Lumie device, which has now gone viral online.
One happy customer posted a video saying the clock has been “really helpful for my mental health”. The woman said: “I wanted to speak a little bit about my Lumie light/alarm, because I think it’s been really helpful for my mental health.
“The first thing I love about it is the mood light feature, where you can just sit and have different lighting on, I think it’s really soothing.
“I love the sunrise and sunset features, half an hour before you go to bed it gradually gets darker, and you can set up the same thing for the morning before you wake up. It feels really nice.
“My alarm clock sound is birds, it sounds like you’re just waking up outside, which I think is really nice because it makes waking up not feel like a struggle. So if you’re someone that struggles to feel okay getting out of bed, or someone who struggles to go to sleep, I highly recommend.”
Another advocate of the Lumie alarm shared her own video review on TikTok, saying: “I’m a big fan of mine, I absolutely love it. I do find it really difficult, especially in the winter months, to get up and be in a good mood.
“How it works is that 30 minutes before you wake up it starts to light up, so instead of being abruptly woken up by an alarm, you’re gradually woken up by the light.
“I wouldn’t say I massively struggle with seasonal depression as much as a lot of people do, but I definitely have noticed an improvement in my mood since using this, especially in winter.”
And a third customer told her TikTok followers that the Lumie alarm clock is “life-changing”, saying: “It is the best thing I’ve bought in such a long time. I just wake up feeling so much more refreshed. I would really recommend it, especially in these dark winter months. Give it a go, it is amazing, life-changing.”
However, over at Amazon, one shopper was left ‘disappointed’, commenting: “Having been very pleased with my old Lumie before it gave up the ghost, I’m rather disappointed with this model. The alarm is so quiet – I hear it but my husband can’t.
“The buttons are really small and difficult to see, particularly in half-light, and the clock is so lightweight that to turn it off I have to get up and hold it so that there is some resistance when I press the buttons, otherwise I’m chasing it across the bedside table. I’ll keep it, but will look for something else next time.”
You can buy the Lumie alarm clock at a discounted prize on Amazon here. Alternatively, if you’re on more of a budget, Currys has this Momcozy Sunrise Wake-Up Light for £54.99, or at Boots you could pick up the Naeo Sunrise Wake-up Lamp, complete with wireless phone charger, for just £20.
