AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Economic Development board has selected a search firm to find its new president and CEO.
Following a year of instability within the AEDC, the board has finally moved forward with its search for a permanent president and CEO.
“It’s important for our community to be able to move forward and to get a permanent person in, and that way we can get about the business of doing economic development,” said Doug Nelson, interim president and CEO for the Amarillo EDC.
At today’s meeting, the board met with The Chason Group, an executive search firm, which presented its credentials.
The AEDC board had scheduled to meet with two firms; however, the other firm pulled its name from the running.
The president and CEO of The Chason Group presented services, experience, and plans for the search.
Chason presented a three-phase plan for the search, beginning with interviews with the AEDC board, staff, and stakeholders inside the community.
“We believe that they are going to be able to provide our community a service that we need and deserve, frankly. And so that our board can be able to make a good decision about an executive, hopefully in the next two or three months,” said Nelson.
The final phase will include a pre-screening process, preliminary interviews, the presentation of a shortlist of top candidates, and ending with a formal interview process.
Nelson has confirmed he has put his name in for consideration for the position and says he will go through the process with the search firm like any other candidate.
The group will charge a fee of around $27,000, with some additional costs included.
The Chason Group gave a 90- to 120-day window for the search and says they will begin as early as next week.
We will continue to follow this process and provide updates as they become available.
