Market sentiment and the Altcoin Season Index suggest a potential rally ahead.
The crypto market is evolving. Layer 1 Altcoins such as Zano, Ethereum, and Solana outperformed Bitcoin in the past month. Ethereum rose 31%, Zano surged 58% and Solana enjoyed steady double-digit gains. This is a sign that investors are once again interested in other blockchain networks.
Bitcoin Dominance is now below 55%. This is the beginning of the altcoin rally. According to the CoinMarketCap 2023 study, these kind of dips generally happen when there is a shift from Bitcoin to altcoins. This change is often also indicating technical advances. Ethereum’s Dencun upgrade in March 2024 enhanced the network’s performance, reduced fees, and improved functionality. Solana’s Firedancer validator, tested in 2022, can process over a million transactions per second, a level that is faster than the slow Bitcoin.
On-chain data shows rising interest in altcoins in 2025. Daily active addresses, transaction volumes, and total value locked (TVL) in Layer-1 networks like Ethereum and Solana have been consistently higher till August 2025 at least. These numbers also indicate the actual use and not just the imaginary. However, the metrics viewed and some experts state that they remain high over time. The increase in this kind of activity means that funds and trust are both moving into altcoins, which have a very strong foundation in 2025.
Altcoin investing is still a risky but potentially profitable option. According to CryptoCompare’s Q2 2024 report, the top altcoins such as Ethereum, Binance Coin, and Solana experienced average 30-day price volatility of 40-60%, whereas Bitcoin’s volatility was 30-40%.
These price swings can help or hurt you. In the past, coins have increased by over 300% in some altcoin seasons, such as in 2017. More recently, Solana soared 400% in Q1 2024 in a short rally. But scams and fraud remain a threat – the Blockchain Security Database recorded 235 crypto scams in 2024, costing investors $1.2 billion.
Currently, the Altcoin Season Index is at 68% as of August 30, 2025 and is nearing the 75% level. This is pretty indicative of an altcoin rally ahead. Market sentiment is also growing with positive mentions for strong founded projects like MATIC and AVAX, In sites like LunarCrush, there was an increase in 15% over this. Behavorial finance research also found out that FOMO which is Fear of missout out, can basically lead to individuals buying although too late.
