Even die hard Oasis fans may not know that Noel Gallagher once trained Obi Wan Kenobi in the art of lightsaber battle.
Not long after Ewan McGregor discovered he had landed the role of the iconic Jedi mentor, he found himself at the legendary guitarist’s 30th birthday party at his London home. After telling Noel he had landed the coveted Star Wars gig, the Oasis legend took it upon himself to begin his training in swordsmanship.
As McGregor told Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2021: “Well, it was Noel Gallagher’s 30th birthday party and he lived quite close to me in London, north London. And I was at his party and then there was a lightsaber fight in his garden very early the next day in the morning.
“But I don’t remember too much instruction. I don’t remember like any lessons being given by Noel. It was just more of a battle in the garden.”
But anyone heading to Croke Park for the Britpop legend’s two massive Irish shows hoping for their own lightsaber duel have been warned to leave them at home as the weapons are included on a lengthy list of items that are not allowed in the stadium. Concert organisers MCD have issued a list of banned items, which also includes alcohol not bought at the venue.
MCD have advised people to check their bags for any prohibited items before they enter the venue. Event security may confiscate and dispose of any prohibited items, while refusal to surrender items may lead to eviction, or removal, from site.
