Albany Community Hospice has won a top honour at the 2025 Palliative Care WA Awards after being named the outstanding organisation delivering holistic palliative care for the second time.
The win meant the hospice took home the Douglas MacAdam Perpetual Trophy for excellence in palliative care, a biennial award, which it also won in 2021.
The trophy is decided by a Palliative Care WA panel and goes to the organisation deemed the best in WA.
The hospice was also a finalist in three other categories.
Volunteer Helen Bolton was a finalist in the outstanding volunteer category while the whole volunteer team also made the cut.
The last nomination was for outstanding work by a team delivering palliative care.
Hospice chief executive Jackie Boyce said she was delighted her organisation had been recognised for its patient-centred care.
“We are so proud of our dedicated, highly skilled team,” she said.
“The quality of care is exceptional, and our team of staff and volunteers also often go above and beyond expectations.
“We are thrilled to be recognised by our peers for the compassionate care we provide to our community, none of which is possible without the ongoing generous support we receive.”
The hospice is renowned for its community collaboration, hosting events like Death Lingo Bingo with the City of Albany and partnering with local businesses for Dying to Know Day.
It has also been recognised for its commitment to initiatives which help improve the patient experience, like the symptom assessment score and ConsideRate surveys.
The scores help the clinical team to assess a patient’s symptoms and level of worry, pain or distress on a scale from 0-10 while the surveys gather patient feedback.
The awards were held at Perth’s Westin Hotel on November 20.
