PureLab, the operator of the largest network of medical laboratories in the Middle East, in cooperation with Load Autonoms, announced the implementation of a pilot project to transport blood samples using drones between Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and their headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
Load Autonoms is a company specializing in advanced aviation technology and the development of drones.
This project is supported by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office and was launched during a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony held as part of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week, organized by the Smart Autonomous Systems Council.

The project aims to enhance the efficiency and speed of safe and reliable daily transport of blood samples, in line with the health and regulatory standards adopted in Abu Dhabi, and will reducing the time of diagnosis and enhancing the speed and efficiency of the medical response in general.
The project is a pivotal step towards integrating autonomous technologies into the logistics chains of the healthcare sector, which will contribute to raising performance efficiency, enhancing the sustainability of operations, improving the quality of services across the healthcare system in the emirate, in addition to reducing the environmental impact and enhancing the reliability of medical diagnostic services.
Badr Salim Sultan Al Olama, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, said that the Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industrial Park “SAVI” forms an integrated platform to accelerate innovation in future mobility technologies, by transforming innovative ideas into pioneering applications that make a tangible impact on society.
He stressed that these applications highlight the vital role of advanced solutions and systems in improving the quality of healthcare services, and reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to leading the transformation towards an innovation-based future and consolidating its position as a global center for testing and developing smart mobility solutions.
FArindam Haldar, CEO of PureLab, said that every minute saved in transporting blood samples represents added value to the lives of patients awaiting diagnosis, explaining that integrating smart air transport technologies with the company’s diagnostic network not only speeds up deliveries but also contributes to the development of the entire healthcare system.
He stressed that the project reflects PureLab’s conviction that innovation in the healthcare sector should serve humanity quickly, efficiently, intelligently, and with greater environmental responsibility, and embodies Abu Dhabi’s vision of transforming the concepts of sustainability and automation into a tangible, practical reality.
Rashid Al Mannai, CEO of Load Autonoms, said the pilot project represents a practical application of autonomous flight capabilities in supporting the health logistics system, by providing fast, safe and sustainable medical transport solutions for medical supplies and samples.
He pointed out that what is being implemented today is not a long-term future vision, but a practical step that enhances the efficiency of services and raises the readiness of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
