MANILA, Philippines — Athletic Filipino wingman Rhenz Abando is bringing his high-wire act back to Korea.
The 27-year-old former NCAA Most Valuable Player returned to the Korean Basketball League by re-signing with the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in time for the new KBL season, the team announced on Tuesday.
After contributing in Anyang’s KBL championship during the 2023 season, where he also won the Slam Dunk title, the former Learn Knights star was limited to just 30 games the following season due to a bad fall that led to a spine injury.
But the 6-foot-2 Abando managed to average 9.9 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Red Boosters during his second season, before he got injured.
After recovering from the scary fall and injury, Abando played for the Strong Group Athletic, helping the ball club owned by Frank Lao to back-to-back Williams Jones Cup titles in 2024 and 2025.

He was even included by coach Tim Cone in the expanded Gilas pool, recently, but he just wasn’t able to join the team practice due to conflict with his Strong Group stint in Taiwan.
On Monday night, Cone said Abando, along with Magnolia big man Zavier Lucero are no longer being considered for the Gilas squad that will be competing in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 set to start on August 6 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
