The streamer has renewed A Man on the Inside for a third season. In contrast to the relatively quick pickup for the show’s second season — which came about three weeks after its premiere — Netflix waited more than two months to decide the show’s future this time around.
“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Netflix on another season of A Man on the Inside,” said series creator and showrunner Mike Schur. “It’s a true joy to work with this entire team, most especially the handsome, erudite, and monstrously talented Ted Danson, a true American treasure whose contract stipulates exactly what adjectives I am allowed to use while describing him in press releases.”
The renewal comes despite a drop in viewership for season two of the comedy, which stars Danson as a retired professor who goes to work for a private investigator (Lilah Richcreek Estrada). The show spent three weeks on Nielsen’s top 10 streaming charts following its premiere in November, accumulating 1.67 billion minutes of viewing over that time. That’s down by one week and about 880 million minutes of watch time compared to the first season in 2024.
Netflix’s internal figures show a decline as well, though the streamer notes the show’s critical acclaim and says the two seasons combined totaled 45 million views worldwide (calculated as total viewing hours divided by run time) in 2025.
