DeFiLlama has stopped collecting trading volume data for its decentralized futures exchange Aster, citing concerns over data reliability.
Both good and bad news came today for Aster (ASTER), one of the most talked about altcoins of recent days.
Aster was listed today by Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, while DeFiLlama removed Aster from its data platform.
Decentralized finance analytics platform DeFiLlama has stopped collecting trading volume data for its decentralized futures exchange Aster, citing concerns about data reliability, Coindesk reported.
DeFiLlama’s pseudonymous co-founder, 0xngmi, pointed to data from XRP futures, saying the decision was driven by suspicions of “wash trading,” or artificial volume generation.
At this point, 0xngmi stated that they found that Astar’s trading volume coincided almost one-to-one with the volume of Binance’s perpetual futures, resulting in a correlation index close to one.
The co-founder explained that because Astar doesn’t share detailed data on who creates and executes orders, it’s impossible to verify potential fraudulent trades and difficult to determine how much of the demand is genuine.
DeFiLlama will exclude Astar’s perpetual futures volume from its metrics until this data becomes available.
“We have been investigating Aster volumes and have recently seen that their volumes have started to almost exactly mirror Binance Perp volumes.
In the chart on the left there is XRPUSDT on Aster, you can see the volume ratio is ~1 compared to Binance.
The chart on the right shows XRP trading volume on Hyperliquid, where there is some lack of correlation.
Aster doesn’t make it possible to obtain lower-level data, such as who gave and executed orders.
Therefore, until we obtain this data to verify whether wash trading is taking place, trading volumes on Aster will be removed from the exchange.”
0xngmi also added that he has no position on ASTER or HYPE.
After DefiLlama removed Aster’s trading volumes from its system, the ASTER price dropped by nearly 10%.
As is well known, Binance founder CZ has been a strong supporter of Aster since its initial launch. While investors were wondering if CZ was also on the altcoin team, CZ clarified in his statement: “I’m not on the team, I’m just an advisor.” CZ added that despite Aster competing with Binance, it has benefited the BNB ecosystem in the long run.
