Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly considering a Serie A return behind the scenes after publicly expressing his desire to stay at Manchester United last month.
Indeed, the lacklustre forward has the option of reviving his career in a familiar environment over in Italy, but this time with giants Inter Milan as opposed to his former club Atalanta.
Numerous outlets have credited the Champions League finalists with interest in Hojlund in recent months. However, none have verified whether an official offer has been sent United’s way. According to FC Inter News, the side are waiting to sanction Mehdi Taremi’s exit before pursuing their striker targets, including the 22-year-old Red.

The issue from United’s perspective is that Inter are keen to sign Hojlund on loan for the 2025/2026 campaign before activating an obligation to make his move permanent this time next year. With transfer funds scarce following a dismal season and Europa League final defeat, INEOS would only entertain a deal that sees them receive a substantial fee upfront in exchange for the player.
What’s more, the site claims that the Denmark international has ‘already given his availability’ to a Serie A switch and ‘to Inter in particular’. He is tied to Old Trafford until 2028, though, so the Red Devils do have full control over his future and how a potential exit would play out.
In truth, fans wouldn’t feel too disgruntled to see the back of Hojlund, even if he is still a young member of the squad who could, in time, develop into a prolific goalscorer.
He looked to have regressed in his sophomore campaign last term, having scored six fewer Premier League goals (four) than he did in his maiden year (10).
Some of the onus must also be directed towards the United board that signed off on his arrival, as the £72 million package they agreed ensured that every performance of his would be dissected under the microscope week in, week out.
