MANILA, Philippines — Eighty percent of Filipinos said Vice President Sara Duterte should face an impeachment court trial, a survey by Octa Research found.
The survey conducted from July 12 to 17 polled1,200 adult respondents. It was held days before the Supreme Court issued its decision invalidating the Articles of Impeachment against the vice president.
“Only 14% disagreed, while 7% were undecided or refused to answer,” Octa said in a report issued on Sunday.
“Support cuts across all regions and socio-economic classes. Regional backing ranges from 69% in Mindanao to a high of 92% in the Visayas, while support across socio-economic groups remains both strong and consistent, ranging from 78% to 80%,” it said.
Octa said that 97 percent of adult Filipinos were aware of the impeachment.

“Among those who agree that Vice President Sara Duterte should face an impeachment trial in the Senate, the most commonly cited reason by 59% of respondents is that she must address the charges, clear her name, and prove herself worthy of the vice presidency. This remains the leading reason across all major regions and socio-economic classes,” it added.
Last February, the House of Representatives impeached Duterte over alleged misuse of confidential funds, among others.

The House said it will appeal the decision of the Supreme Court.
