With thousands of titles to choose from on Netflix, finding the right TV show to sink into can feel like a daunting task. For viewers who just want to find something quickly but are trying to avoid sifting through countless trailers on Netflix, Screen Rant has got you covered with the best shows to stream right now.
Atop Netflix’s Top 10 global list is Wednesday season 2, which, odds are, you’ve already seen after its part 1 release last week. Meanwhile, the viewership of Untamed surged to become Netflix’s most-watched new original series of 2025 thus far, and recent releases such as Ransom Canyon and The Waterfront remain solid options among Netflix’s best original content.
5 Ballers
Ballers is an HBO series starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson that will be leaving Netflix on August 15, 2025. While there are five seasons of the Emmy-nominated sports/showbiz series, each episode is about 30 minutes long, making it still possible to binge the entire show before it leaves Netflix on Friday.
Ballers will still be available to stream on HBO Max after August 15 for those who subscribe to that service as well. The series was released in 2015 and follows Johnson’s Spencer Strasmore, a retired NFL superstar who becomes a sports agent for professional athletes, particularly NFL players.
Those who loved HBO’s classic Hollywood series Entourage will also enjoy Ballers since it was created by Entourage producer Stephen Levinson. Both shows capture a similar behind-the-scenes feel of A-list entertainers, except with Ballers, it’s centered on sports instead of movies.
Even if you’ve seen Ballers before, the series continued back in 2019, making it certainly due for a rewatch. It’s also a fantastic show to gear up for the upcoming NFL season if you’ve already exhausted Netflix’s Quarterback season 2 and the first couple of episodes of HBO’s Hard Knocks.
Ballers also has an exciting ensemble cast that includes John David Washington (The Creator, BlacKkKlansman), Omar Benson Miller (Sinners, 8 Mile), and Rob Corddry (Children’s Hospital, Bookie), who plays Spencer’s right-hand man, Joe Krutel.
4 Bloodline
Bloodline is one of those outstanding Netflix series that was canceled far too soon after three seasons. It also makes for a great late summer watch due to its idyllic coastal setting in the Florida Keys, transporting viewers to paradise from the comfort of home.
While its second and third seasons received mixed reviews from critics, Bloodline’s first season was truly phenomenal and earned a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 81%. It was another series that was first released in 2015, in what ended up being a historic year in television.
Bloodline’s outstanding cast is almost too good to believe. Led by Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), who play estranged brothers, the ensemble also includes Linda Cardellini, Owen Teague, Sissy Spacek, David Zayas, John Leguizamo, Jamie McShane, and the late Sam Shepard.
Bloodline is a family drama series with elements of thriller and murder mystery. If you enjoyed The Waterfront and maybe even Ozark, then Bloodline sounds like it will be right up your alley. The third season, however, is widely considered to be a bit of a letdown, mostly because season 1 (and arguably season 2) are so gripping, immersive, and well executed.
3 Mindhunter
Mindhunter has been many Netflix subscribers’ “one that got away” in terms of fantastic TV shows that were shockingly canceled when the series was still going strong. There’s been recent speculation that executive producer David Fincher, who directed the first two episodes of the series, will return to oversee season 3, but nothing official has been announced by Netflix.
As Dexter: Resurrection is currently releasing weekly episodes on Paramount+ and Showtime, fans of serial killer crime thrillers are likely looking for other series to binge while anxiously waiting for new Dexter content. Even if you’ve seen it before, it doesn’t get much better than Mindhunter in that department.
Mindhunter carries the classic and signature look and tone of many of David Fincher’s greatest works, particularly House of Cards, Gone Girl, and The Social Network. Mindhunter naturally pulls the viewer in with its intelligent FBI protagonists, its chilling true-crime portrayals of real-life notorious killers, and its expert filmmaking.
Over the course of its two excellent seasons, Mindhunter features in-depth portrayals and often reenacted face-to-face interviews with some of the worst killers who ever lived. Edmund Kemper, David Berkowitz, and Charles Manson are just a select few of the killers placed under a microscope in Mindhunter. If Wednesday doesn’t quite give you enough chills, then a dark and disturbing series like Mindhunter may be what you’re after.
2 The Recruit
At one point in 2022, The Recruit was one of the most trendy and bingeable original shows on Netflix. Aimed more towards the younger crowd who discovered lead star Noah Centineo through Netflix teen comedies like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Perfect Date, The Recruit proved that the rising star actor could be more than just a love interest.
The Recruit was, and still is, an enjoyable show, even though it was surprisingly canceled soon after its second season premiered in late January of this year. Although its marketed as a spy action thriller, it’s actually somewhat of a dark comedy show, mostly due to its lighthearted tone even in the most dangerous situations.
Centineo plays Owen Hendricks, a budding attorney straight out of law school who lands a desk at the CIA. Although his job description only calls for filing paperwork and the usual lawyer duties, Owen takes it upon himself to get involved in a mysterious adventure after a defected CIA asset threatens to reveal classified intel.
If you’re looking for a stress-free show that makes for easy viewing, then The Recruit is a great option. At just 14 episodes, all roughly an hour’s length, the series can be completed in just a few sittings. While the plot can get a bit messy at times, there are more than enough likable characters worth investing in, and Centineo really nails his leading role.
1 Black Mirror
Black Mirror has been a staple TV show on Netflix for years, even if the quality of its later seasons doesn’t entirely match up to its original slate. That said, Black Mirror season 7, which was released in April of this year, marked a true return to form for the Emmy-winning series thanks to a handful of highly innovative and entertaining installments.
For those not familiar, Black Mirror is essentially the modern-day version of The Twilight Zone, presenting futuristic scenarios largely based around advanced technology that widely act as a cautionary tale for humanity. Some of its best episodes, including season 1’s “The Entire History of You” and season 3’s “San Junipero,” are metaphysical yet deeply human, which leaves a lasting impression on viewers.
As for season 7, the one to check out above all is “Eulogy,” starring Paul Giamatti, who plays Phillip, a man tasked with recalling memories of an old friend to provide crucial information for her eulogy that only he can access. Phillip goes through a remarkable journey to his past with the help of advanced technology that guides him through the process, digitally immersing himself in old photographs.
Other Black Mirror season 7 highlights include “Common People,” starring Rashida Jones, and the first-ever Black Mirror sequel episode, “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” Each episode is essentially a mini-movie, so any episode that piques your interest on Netflix can be viewed without missing much series-wide context.
