July 26, 1925: A reunion of the P. W. Smith family of this place was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Frank of Clinton. A six course dinner was enjoyed at the MaGill hotel in Clinton, 35 guests being served.
75 years ago
July 26, 1950: “Bloomington On Parade” has been chosen as the official slogan of the Bloomington Centennial. The seal of the event is a circle around a team pulling a covered wagon toward a horizon of Bloomington’s skyline. The artist is Martin Birch, an Illinois Wesleyan University senior, drawing on the idea of Ed Lebkuecher, head of the committee’s publicity division, who suggested blending the era of 100 years ago with present times.

July 26, 1975: Kenneth T. Benjamin of rural Bloomington has been appointed director of a new Grains, Oilseeds and Cotton Division of the USDA’s Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. In a major reorganization, the division is formed by combining into one unit all major commodities governed by market-oriented provisions of the Agriculture and Consumer Protection Act of 1773. Benjamin, 63, had headed the Grain Division.

July 26, 2000: Work began last weekend on the restoration of Fairview Methodist Church, a 135-year-old church near Cropsey. Local volunteers and members of the Old House Society scraped, sanded and painted the church, which was established in 1865 and closed in 1946. It continues to attract visitors — and unfortunately, also vandals, who have littered and broken windows throughout the years.
