What recently played out on social media around the alleged single-term agreement is not politics as usual — it is a calculated deception.
A fabricated message, purportedly from the Presidency, suddenly flooded social media, claiming that former Governor Yahaya Bello and the incumbent Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, were reminded to honour a so-called single-term agreement allegedly entered into with Hon. Abiodun James Faleke. Unsurprisingly, the loudest promoters of this message were from Kogi West.
Barely days later, a counter-message — again allegedly from Hon. Faleke — surfaced, denying the existence of any such agreement. This time, the loudest amplifiers were overwhelmingly from Kogi Central.
This was no coincidence. It was choreography.
After a careful assessment of the unfolding drama, it became obvious that this is a well-orchestrated plot by the ruling APC to confuse, weaken, and ultimately disarm Kogi West ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The objective is simple but dangerous:
* Create a false impression that the governorship seat has been permanently ceded to Kogi Central until 2031.
* Psychologically condition Kogi West to abandon 2027.
* Justify the shameful press conferences recently staged in Kogi West, where a few compromised voices openly demanded the continuation of the incumbent governor till 2031.
Let it be stated clearly and without fear: this is a political fraud against Kogi West.
All the claims, denials, and counter-denials are internal APC games. They are not about fairness, justice, or equity. They are about power retention. By circulating the denial of the agreement, APC wants Kogi West to surrender 2027 without a fight and quietly “wait” till 2031.
That deception must fail.
Kogi State is not a one-party state. The governorship seat does not belong to APC alone. Nigeria practices a multiparty democracy, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is not a spectator — it is a serious contender determined to win power in 2027.
ADC Kogi West must therefore rise immediately, boldly, and unapologetically to declare that Kogi State belongs to all its people. No zone has been gifted power by divine right. Power must be contested, negotiated, and won.
However, victory will not come through noise or empty statements. If Kogi West truly desires power in 2027, unity is not optional — it is compulsory. This is not the time for ego, personal ambition, or internal sabotage. This is the time to close ranks and confront a system that has perfected the art of using division as a weapon.
ADC must speak with one clear, thunderous voice by presenting a credible, disciplined, and widely acceptable candidate — someone with statewide appeal, political courage, and the capacity to confront the incumbent with superior ideas, structure, and grassroots strength.
While APC Kogi West busies itself issuing press releases in defence of continuity, and while it distracts the people with imaginary agreements and internal propaganda, ADC Kogi West must focus on what truly matters: winning the hearts of the people and reclaiming power in 2027.
Let no one be deceived.
The call for Kogi West to wait till 2031 is APC’s agenda, not the will of the people. It is against equity, against justice, and against the collective aspiration of Kogi citizens who desire competent, inclusive, and people-centred governance.
Kogi West must reject this manipulation. 2027 is not a favour. 2027 is not negotiable. 2027 is now.
