2027: Pro-Tinubu group inaugurates 2,000 ward executives

A support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the aegis of the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), has inaugurated over 2,000 ward executives to mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration took place during the commissioning of the AMG secretariat in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The ward executives were drawn from the 203 political wards in the state, with 10 members selected per ward.

Director General of AMG, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, disclosed that similar structures were springing up in Osun, Ekiti, and Lagos States, with plans to expand nationwide.

He said the group’s decision to support Tinubu was based on the president’s courage in removing fuel subsidy immediately after assuming office.

“Asiwaju took the bold step to remove the evil called oil subsidy on his first day in office,” Asagunla said. “Initially, things went awry — garri was sold for about N1,200 per congo, rice for N1,500, and petrol for between N1,200 and N1,700.

“But now, prices are coming down. Things are getting better in Nigeria, and we should allow the Renewed Hope Agenda to continue.”

Asagunla stressed that AMG’s activities were not early campaigning but aimed at sensitising citizens to government policies and encouraging them to benefit from available opportunities.

“What we are doing now is not campaigning. We are sensitising people about the policies that touch the lives of the downtrodden. When they benefit from these policies, they will naturally support Asiwaju when the time comes,” he said.

Director of Special Duties of the group, Balajobi Babatunde, explained that the commissioning was inspired by Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who encouraged AMG to take proactive steps in support of the president’s vision.

“By the special grace of God, we have 203 wards in Ondo State, and we are inaugurating 10 executives from each ward — 2,030 in total. As you can see, the mammoth crowd here shows its support for our dear president,” Babatunde said.

He dismissed suggestions that AMG was competing with other Tinubu support groups, insisting that their work complements the broader effort to sustain the president’s policies and vision.

“We are not working at cross purposes with any other group,” he said. “Our goal is the same — ensuring the continuity and success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
