TIFFIN, Ohio (WOIO) – Two children and two men were fatally shot Wednesday evening and police said the mom was physically uninjured, but “clearly in a state of shock, overwhelmed, and visibly traumatized.”
Tiffin police were called out to a home in the 100 block of Huss St. at 6:24 p.m. for a report of gunshots and screaming.
Officers said the mom, one of the men, and the two children were found inside the home.
One child and the man were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said they immediately began lifesaving measures on the second child.
The second child and the mother were transported to Mercy Hospital, where “despite every effort by first responders and medical personnel,” the child died, said police.
The second man was found outside the home with what police said appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) were also called to the scene to assist with the investigation.
As of Thursday morning, police said they were still processing evidence and conducting interviews.
The names of the victims are not being released at this time.
“As a community, we are not accustomed to events of this horrific and heartbreaking nature in Tiffin. I ask that all residents keep the victims’ families in their thoughts as they face unimaginable loss. I also ask that our community keep the responding officers, firefighters, dispatchers, emergency medical personnel, and all others involved in their thoughts as they continue to process the emotional toll of this tragedy,” said Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly.
