007: First Light is due to get an extended unveiling later this week as it aims to feature a significant amount of in-game footage and a deep dive from its developer ahead of its 2026 release.
James Bond fans have finally something to look forward to this week as Sony has confirmed its next State of Play presentation for 007: First Light, which is slated for Wednesday, September 3, at 11 am PT / 7 pm BST / 8 pm CEST, offering players an in-depth look into the upcoming 007 game being developed by IO Interactive.
The PlayStation State of Play livestream will go live on PlayStation’s official Twitch and YouTube channels, promising viewers over 30 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay, which will showcase James Bond’s early days as an MI6 recruit. In a PlayStation blog post, IO Interactive Senior Global Communication Manager Rann Roskell stated:
“In this upcoming State of Play, tune in for over 30 minutes of gameplay through Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit. The action includes everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences. Stay tuned after the playthrough for insights from IO Interactive on the intense espionage gameplay.”
Danish studio IO Interactive, best known for the recent Hitman series, is spearheading the project. Studio CEO Hakan Abrak commented earlier in 2021 about his vision for James Bond. He stated that the game wouldn’t lean on previous Bond movies or actors and that IO intends to curate a James Bond universe from scratch.
The game was originally announced as Project 007 back in November 2020, and was later announced with its full name in a June 2025 State of Play trailer, which depicted a younger, resourceful yet reckless James Bond exploring his early days as a spy.
According to recent development updates, Abrak stated that production for the game was going “amazingly well” and further mentioned, “I know it was a little teaser, not a lot of information, but there’s cool stuff coming up. We are also very excited, and when we are ready with that, we’ll be opening up.
In July 2025, IO Interactive director Jonathan Lacaille shed more light on the upcoming 007 game, stating:
“We are very excited to be working with MGM and Amazon on this new James Bond game. Hitman is definitely an inspiration, but we want to make sure that 007 has its own identity. The game will feature stealth and gadgets similar to the Hitman series, but with a Bond twist.”
As for multiplayer, Lacaille mentioned in previous interviews that it wasn’t in the game’s equation. 007: First Light is slated to release in 2026 on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
